PGM Calls for Action to Prevent Traffic Accidents
The Police General Directorate (PGM) made significant calls to both drivers and pedestrians to reduce traffic accidents and fatalities across the country.
In a statement, PGM highlighted that accidents caused by speed, inattention, and lack of street illumination pose a serious threat to both drivers and pedestrians. The statement emphasized that fatal accidents, serious injuries, and financial losses in traffic lead to deep sorrow within society, stressing the importance of adhering to traffic rules to prevent such incidents.
PGM reminded drivers to reduce their speed and proceed carefully, especially at roundabouts, intersections, and pedestrian crossings. It was emphasized that yielding to pedestrians at crossings is a legal obligation.
To ensure pedestrian safety, PGM outlined several rules:
- Pedestrian crossings should be used when crossing streets in residential areas.
- Light-colored clothing should be worn during night walks, and reflective materials should be carried.
- Pedestrians should cross only when the road is clear at locations without crossings, but must avoid crossing at intersection points.
PGM also pointed out the importance of education and awareness campaigns involving all segments of society to minimize traffic accidents. They noted that preventive measures could significantly reduce such incidents.
The statement ended with a call to follow traffic rules, urging: "Let’s stop traffic accidents together."
