President Ersin Tatar Calls on YÖDAK President Turgay Avcı to Resign
President Ersin Tatar has called on YÖDAK President Prof. Dr. Turgay Avcı, who was arrested and is currently undergoing legal proceedings in connection with the investigation at KSTU, to resign.
President Ersin Tatar, taking recent developments into consideration, has urged Prof. Dr. Turgay Avcı, the President of the Higher Education Planning, Evaluation, Accreditation, and Coordination Council (YÖDAK), to resign.
In a written statement issued by President Ersin Tatar, the following statements were made:
"While the police investigation and legal process regarding certain incidents at one of our universities continue, I have applied to the High Judiciary Council for the removal of YÖDAK President Turgay Avcı from office.
As it is known, the authority to dismiss the President of YÖDAK belongs solely to the High Judiciary Council.
Following my application, the High Judiciary Council, convened regarding the matter, has decided that within 15 days, the defense of President Avcı will be heard, Judge Gökhan Asafoğulları, appointed as the investigating judge, will prepare a report within one month, and subsequently, if deemed appropriate, disciplinary proceedings will be initiated against President Avcı.
I would like to reiterate once again that my confidence in the judiciary is complete.
With the aim of facilitating a new restructuring within YÖDAK, and taking into account the presumption of innocence during the ongoing legal process, I believe that President Avcı should resign at this stage."
