Gürkut: "Serious Issues in Emergency Departments, We Expect Solutions"

Gürkut stated that emergency departments are a particular concern, emphasizing that patients should receive care with adequate equipment, specialists, personnel, diagnostic, and treatment facilities at the time of their visit. However, she pointed out that these resources are currently lacking. Dr. Özlem Gürkut made important statements about the healthcare system and the problems in emergency departments during her appearance on the "Günaydın Kıbrıs" program, hosted by Serhat İncirli on Kanal Sim.

Gürkut urged the government, especially doctors in ministerial positions, to recognize the living conditions that threaten public health. She mentioned that smoke from Teknecik, steel waste on roads, and food containing testis residues are threats to public health. She also highlighted that the electricity issues are impacting public health but that no preventive measures are being taken. She emphasized the need to discuss these matters.

Gürkut noted that there are severe doctor shortages in certain specialties in hospitals, and emergency departments are a distinct issue. She emphasized that patients visiting emergency services need to be treated with adequate equipment, specialists, personnel, and diagnostic and treatment facilities, but these are currently lacking. She mentioned that in Gazimağusa, Kyrenia, and Omorfo, one doctor is on 24-hour duty each day. Gürkut also pointed out the lack of porters to transport patients, the absence of a triage system to prioritize patients based on their condition, and the lack of receptionists or security personnel.

Gürkut stressed that they are not voicing their concerns about emergency services for the first time. They wish to hold meetings with authorities and have been reaching out daily, but the secretary often states that the minister is busy with party convention activities. Gürkut noted that they will meet with Health Minister Hakan Dinçyürek on August 9th and emphasized that their demands go beyond meetings; concrete steps must be taken.
