Primary and Secondary Schools Open on Monday
The 2024-2025 academic year for state primary schools, secondary schools, and high schools under the Ministry of Education will commence on Monday, September 23. The start of the school year was postponed by one week due to "incomplete teacher appointments," as decided by the Cabinet.
Approximately 28,000 students will attend 128 public and private schools under the Primary Education Department, while about 30,000 secondary and high school students will study in 48 public and private schools under the General Secondary Education Department.
The first-term report card distribution will take place on Friday, January 31, and the mid-term break will be from February 1 to 16, with the second term starting on Monday, February 17. Report cards and completion certificates will be issued on Monday, June 16.
College Entrance Exams
The first stage of the College Entrance Exam (KGS-1) is scheduled for Saturday, January 25, while the second stage (KGS-2) will take place on Saturday, June 14.
High School Exams
The Placement Exam for Bülent Ecevit Anatolian High School (BEAL) and the 20 July Science High School will be conducted on Saturday, June 21. Preference applications for vocational school programs for students completing the 8th grade will be accepted from June 18 to 23, with the placements for vocational school 9th grades announced on Monday, June 23. The entrance exam for Lefkoşa Anatolian Fine Arts High School will be held from June 25 to 27.
Student Numbers
Approximately 30,000 secondary and high school students will be enrolled in 48 public and private schools under the General Secondary Education Department. About 4,000 vocational school students will attend 13 schools under the Vocational Technical Education Department, along with approximately 450 students at the Taner Akcan Apprenticeship and Adult Education Center. The total number of teachers in public and private schools across the TRNC is around 6,300.
Police Warning
The General Directorate of Police has reminded that primary and secondary schools will open on Monday, urging caution in traffic. The police have indicated that traffic flow will be heavy during school entry and exit times and that necessary safety and traffic measures are in place.
In a statement aimed primarily at parents, the police emphasized that traffic education begins at home, and children should be taught how to behave in traffic. They cautioned against parking in front of school entrances to avoid congestion and stressed the importance of safe driving practices to protect children’s lives.
