Supreme Court: No Threats Against Our Judges
The Supreme Court has denied allegations that judges are under threat, clarifying that emails sent by the father of a defendant did not contain any threats. The court emphasized that contacting judges is inappropriate.
In response to a news article titled "Are Judges Under Threat?" published in Yeni Bakış newspaper, the Supreme Court stated that a father had emailed judges requesting an expedited hearing for his son’s case, but there were no threats in the messages.
The statement noted, "It has been determined that the father of a defendant in a case currently under preliminary investigation at the Lefkoşa District Court sent the same content emails to the judge responsible for criminal cases and three other judges involved in the same case."
While the emails included the father's request for an expedited hearing, no threatening statements were found. The court also revealed that the judges’ email addresses were obtained from the Cyprus Turkish Bar Association's website and requested their removal after being published without their knowledge; the Bar Association promptly complied.
The Supreme Court stressed that communicating with judges via phone, email, or similar methods is inappropriate and should not occur. They reassured the public that they are monitoring the situation and confirmed that there are no threats against any judges.
