CTP Calls on Government for Dialogue: Ready to Support Candidate with 19 MPs
The leader of the Republican Turkish Party (CTP), Tufan Erhürman, has issued a public call to the government, emphasizing that his party is prepared to support a candidate for the new Speaker of the Parliament with 19 members of parliament, provided that the selection is made through consultation.
Speaking at a press conference held at the CTP headquarters, Erhürman highlighted that despite their readiness, there had been no dialogue established so far.
“Our main goal is to ensure the effective functioning of the Parliament,” Erhürman stated, adding that the CTP’s proposed solutions should be considered. He underscored that the current issue is not just a parliamentary crisis but a broader “government crisis” that can only be resolved through early elections.
“This is Not a Parliamentary Crisis, but a Government Crisis”
Erhürman analyzed the situation by stating, “This is not a parliamentary crisis; this is a government crisis.” He noted that the crisis was predictable and pointed to the country’s lack of governance as the reason for repeated calls for early elections. “There are those who attempt to present this government crisis as a parliamentary issue,” he said, criticizing attempts to mask the crisis by stalling parliamentary processes.
“No Response to Our Call for Dialogue”
The CTP leader expressed his willingness to do whatever is necessary to ensure the Parliament’s operations continue. Erhürman noted that, following the events on Monday, they had called for dialogue but had yet to receive any response. “We said that this issue needs to be resolved through dialogue. However, our call for dialogue has gone unanswered,” he remarked.
“No Solution Other Than Early Elections”
Erhürman urged the government to put an end to the current legal irregularities and conduct an election in Parliament based on a candidate selected through consultations. He reiterated CTP’s readiness to support such a candidate with their 19 MPs and to contribute constructively. Concluding his statement, Erhürman stressed that this public call for dialogue was necessary due to the lack of direct communication with the “structure that calls itself a government.”
