Three suspects, Karanfil Çiftyürek, Nevruz Çiftyürek, and Deniz Çiftyürek, arrested during the "Binbir Surat Operation" in Kyrenia, have been ordered to remain in custody for another 8 days in connection with multiple burglaries across Nicosia.
The suspects are accused of breaking into four separate homes and stealing thousands of lira worth of jewelry and cash. The operation began with an investigation into a burglary at an apartment in Gönyeli on August 28, 2024, where the suspects allegedly forced entry, causing damage to the apartment's door, and stole various valuables including gold coins, rings, and bracelets.
Further investigations revealed that between November 7-11, 2024, the suspects stole cash and jewelry from residences in Nicosia. In one incident, they reportedly entered an apartment in Şht. Gazeteci Hasan Tahsin Street and took 7,500 TL in cash, 300 British pounds, and various jewelry items.
Police also reported a burglary on November 10-11, 2024, at an apartment on İyiniyet Street in Gönyeli, where the suspects allegedly stole emerald jewelry, gold coins, and several items of high value, including a Cartier ring and diamond jewelry. The stolen goods were later found in the suspects' possession during a search at their accommodation in Kyrenia.
The suspects were identified through security camera footage, leading to their arrest. During the search, police discovered some of the stolen gold, as well as significant amounts of cash, including 22,550 TL, 300 euros, 1,320 dollars, and 155 sterling, along with tools used for breaking and entering.
Further investigation revealed that one of the suspects, Karanfil Çiftyürek, had been inside a home in Nicosia before, leading to the arrest of another individual, S.B., for questioning.
Police have requested that the suspects remain in custody for another 8 days while the investigation continues. The defense lawyer for the Çiftyürek siblings has requested medical examination due to their health issues. Judge Nuray Necdet approved the request for medical checks and extended their detention by 8 days.
