Yaylalı: Early Elections Are Inevitable

In a written statement, Yaylalı claimed that the ongoing crisis in the Presidency of the Assembly was a result of those elected to serve the public becoming completely disconnected from the people. He emphasized that the situation has now reached a point where rapid action for early elections is unavoidable.

Yaylalı pointed out that the Turkish Cypriot economy is experiencing its worst period in history, with constant price increases in goods and services leading to the growing impoverishment of the population. He also criticized the uncontrolled influx of foreign nationals into the country and the dire state of local industries, which are on the brink of collapse.

He noted that highly educated and qualified young people are leaving the country in large numbers, and the country's infrastructure, particularly roads, is now inadequate and unsafe, with the risk of fatal accidents increasing.

According to Yaylalı, the political establishment is focused on irrelevant issues, while the real concerns of the public are being ignored. He criticized the government's failure to address the escalating agricultural crisis, the devaluation of the Turkish lira, and the inflationary pressures that are affecting the economy and society.

He further stated that, despite the serious challenges facing the country, the Assembly has not taken any significant action for nearly four months, leaving the government and other representatives inactive.

Yaylalı called for an immediate early election, asserting that the current political structures and institutions are incapable of governing the country. He argued that the sovereignty of the Turkish Cypriot people must be restored through the democratic process and that a new government, driven by a people-oriented understanding, should be formed.

He warned that as long as the public remains silent and passive in the face of the deteriorating system, no change will occur. The TDP, he said, believes that the current parliamentary structure and leadership do not represent the Turkish Cypriot people and are not deserving of the population.

Yaylalı concluded by accusing the current leaders of mismanaging the country, impoverishing the people, and driving them to emigrate, while still clinging to power. He called for early elections to allow the Turkish Cypriot people to establish a government that truly serves their needs.
