Civil Society Organizations Urge Action on Children's Rights
Five civil society organizations marked World Children’s Rights Day with a joint call for immediate action to address widespread violations of children’s rights in Northern Cyprus.
The Cyprus Turkish Teachers’ Union (KTÖS), Cyprus Turkish Bar Association (KTBB), Universal Children’s Rights Association (EÇHD), Cyprus Turkish Pediatric Society (KTPK), and Cyprus Turkish Medical Association (KTTB) held a press conference in Nicosia, highlighting issues such as violence, neglect, and abuse against children, which often go unreported and unpunished.
Speakers identified key problems, including outdated laws, inadequate education on children’s rights, and systemic barriers faced by migrant and refugee children. They proposed measures such as establishing a Child Monitoring Center, updating legal frameworks, improving school infrastructure, and developing integration programs.
The organizations stressed the urgency of coordinated efforts and reiterated their readiness to collaborate to protect children’s rights.
