According to a statement from the Ministry of Economy and Energy, Amcaoğlu explained that preparations for the system’s rollout in the first two months of next year have been completed. The electronic labels will help monitor the retail market, which is worth approximately $2.5 billion annually in imports.

Aiming to implement automation for monitoring the electronic labels in the retail sector, Amcaoğlu also mentioned that consultations have begun with stakeholders, including trade, industry, and commerce chambers, as well as retailers, market operators, and importers.

"We Aim to Ensure Effective Price Control"

Amcaoğlu stated that the primary goal of the electronic labeling system is to establish effective price control. He emphasized the ongoing work to monitor the retail market and shared that 24 inspectors would continue to carry out daily, year-round checks.

"Our primary objective in these inspections is to ensure public health and food safety, while preventing unfair competition and profits," Amcaoğlu said. He also referenced the earlier implementation of an automation system in the fuel sector, which allows monitoring of 142 gas stations and two supplier company depots.

With the upcoming electronic labeling system, all prices will be visible in real-time to the Ministry of Economy and Energy, Ministry of Finance, businesses, supermarkets, and consumers. This will allow for improved monitoring, oversight, and planning, Amcaoğlu explained. He also highlighted that this approach would curb unfair competition, enable immediate responses to complaints, and provide insights into the profitability of all products.

Amcaoğlu concluded by stressing that the system is designed to protect consumers first, businesses second, and the state last.
