Illegal Immigrant Arrested for Crime, Sent to Prison
Justin Ikechukwu Osuji, who had been declared an illegal immigrant by the Council of Ministers on December 11, was arrested after being involved in a crime. Osuji had previously presented a forged car rental agreement to the police in Nicosia. Following his arrest, he was sent to prison, while another individual involved in the crime was released on bail.
Osuji and Mohamed Beshir, who had also presented a fake car rental agreement to the police, were charged with "forgery of official documents," "circulation of forged documents," and "illegal residence." Both suspects were brought to court.
Police officer Hasan Çelik explained that on December 13, 2024, during a traffic check in Nicosia, a police officer stopped Osuji’s vehicle, ZUC 414, and the suspect claimed he did not have the rental agreement at the time but would present it later. On December 14, Osuji presented a forged rental agreement with his name written on it for the period between December 13 and 16, which he had issued under a company’s name. He handed over the forged document to the police.
Police also revealed that the suspect confessed to the crime after being summoned to the Nicosia Criminal Division on the same day. A residence check revealed that Osuji had been residing illegally in the TRNC since November 29, 2024.
Further investigation found that the vehicle in question had been rented to Osuji by a car rental company operating in Lapta. He was arrested on December 25, 2024, and handwriting samples were collected from him.
Prosecutor Senem Palabıyık requested that Mohamed Beshir, a student, be granted appropriate bail, while Osuji should be sent to prison for no more than two months, in accordance with the expulsion order.
Judge Nuray Necdet decided to send Justin Ikechukwu Osuji to prison for a maximum of two months, imposed a travel ban on Mohamed Beshir, required him to report his presence once a week, ordered a cash bail of 35,000 TL, and mandated a 300,000 TL guarantee bond from a guarantor.
