Storm Elena to affect Cyprus until Friday
The low pressure system named Elena will continue to affect Cyprus until Friday while a new front is expected on Sunday, the met office said on Thursday.
Today, the weather at times will be mainly cloudy with local rain and isolated thunderstorms, but also with clear periods. Hail may fall during thunderstorm, and winds may strengthen, while snowfall is expected in the higher mountains. Locally, there may be temporarily increased low cloud or fog. Temperatures will rise to around 17 degrees inland and along the coasts, and around 5 degrees in the higher mountains, where frost is expected in some areas.
In the evening, the weather will remain cloudy, with local rain at intervals and isolated thunderstorms. Hail may fall during thunderstorms. Temperatures will drop to around 6 degrees inland, 10 degrees along the coasts, and around 1 degree in the higher mountains. In the mountainous areas, frost is expected to form locally.
The snow’s height at Troodos Square was 2 centimeters.
Meanwhile, a yellow warning for rain and isolated thunderstorms issued on Christmas Eve is still in effect until midday on Boxing Day.
The total rainfall was expected locally to exceed 55 millimeters during the 24-hour period.
