Erhürman: "What You Have Created Is Just an Entity Chasing Personal Interests"

Speaking in the Parliament, Erhürman highlighted that 21 decrees with the force of law had been issued by the Council of Ministers since October 1. He described this situation as a "mockery" of the democratic process.

Erhürman also pointed out that in 2024, a total of 64 decrees had been issued, claiming that the government was managing the country as if the Parliament didn’t exist, by ruling through decrees instead of legislation.

The CTP leader criticized the government's handling of cost of living adjustments through a decree, and how a VAT regulation was withdrawn just a day after its announcement. He referred to the series of decrees being withdrawn within a month as turning everything into a "mockery."

Erhürman also commented on the recommendation by the Renewed Party (YDP) to withdraw from the coalition government, stating that it was surprising that the National Unity Party (UBP) had not responded to the call.

Erhürman further criticized the government for introducing a tax amnesty for individuals who had objected by January 15, calling it "nonsense." He also expressed concern over an amnesty for those in debt to the Cyprus Turkish Electricity Authority (Kıb-Tek), questioning how a person with a 675 TL electricity bill could face disconnection while others with larger debts benefited from the amnesty.

Referring to the government's actions as a "mess," Erhürman also addressed a recent statement by Prime Minister Ünal Üstel, in which he gave incorrect information about the cost of living figures. He called for a response from Üstel to his criticisms.

In conclusion, Erhürman declared, "What you have created is just an entity chasing personal interests," and added that if the CTP were in power, they would manage Parliament like a proper legislative body, not through decrees.
