EL-SEN Warns Prime Minister Ünal Üstel: Strike Looms if Demands Are Ignored

The Cyprus Turkish Electricity Authority Workers' Union (EL-SEN) has accused Prime Minister Ünal Üstel of failing to fulfill promises made in August last year to address ongoing issues at KIB-TEK. The union has given Üstel until Thursday to respond, warning that they will initiate a strike on Friday if ignored.

EL-SEN expressed frustration over unaddressed meeting requests and reiterated their demands, which include securing energy supply through power plant investments, revising or canceling the KALECİK-III contract with AKSA, and publicly disclosing the beneficiaries of debt forgiveness programs at KIB-TEK.

During a meeting with KIB-TEK management, the union succeeded in securing guarantees for the implementation of the Collective Bargaining Agreement but reported encountering resistance on energy-related issues due to the need for the Prime Minister's approval.

EL-SEN criticized KIB-TEK's management for admitting they could not act without Üstel's consent and stated that continuing discussions under such conditions was futile.

The union has authorized its leadership to take all necessary legal steps, including an indefinite strike, should their demands remain unmet by the Thursday deadline.
