Speed Identified as Leading Cause of Traffic Accidents and Violations Last Week

According to the report from the General Directorate of Police covering the period from January 20-26, 53 traffic accidents were recorded in the country, resulting in 16 injuries. Speed was noted as the primary cause of both traffic accidents and violations.

Of the 53 accidents, 14 resulted in injuries and 39 in property damage, with a total of 16 people injured.

The causes of traffic accidents were reported as:

• Speeding (15)

• Careless driving (11)

• Failure to stop at intersections (12)

• Following too closely (9)

• Other factors (6)

The total damage resulting from these accidents was calculated at 2,451,033 TL. The distribution of accidents by district was as follows: Gazimağusa 18, Girne 17, Lefkoşa 12, İskele 3, and Güzelyurt 3.

In addition to accident reports, traffic inspections this week involved the checking of 16,391 vehicle drivers, resulting in 3,209 drivers being reported and facing legal action. Furthermore, 323 vehicles were removed from traffic, and 12 drivers were arrested.
