Erhürman: This Small Island Cannot Bear So Much Risk

In a social media post, CTP Leader Erhürman stated, "Greek Cypriot Defense Minister Vasilis Palmas announced that the Baf Air Base, which will be modernized with US assistance, will grant Israel a privileged status. The base will also be open to countries like Egypt and Jordan, as well as the EU."

Erhürman continued, "Mr. Christodoulides has recently been listing initiatives that risk the possibility of permanent peace and stability on this island."

"The reality is very clear: If a solution based on political equality, where Turkish Cypriots and Greek Cypriots, as two equal founding partners, make joint decisions on issues such as energy, security, maritime jurisdiction areas, trade routes, and hydrocarbons, is not implemented, permanent peace and stability will not prevail on this island's future, but rather permanent tension and unrest."

Tufan Erhürman added, "As long as Mr. Christodoulides is allowed to make such decisions that mortgage the future of this island as if Turkish Cypriots do not exist, both Turkish Cypriots and Greek Cypriots will move further away from a future where their children can live in peace."

Drawing attention to the ongoing negotiations and the planned multilateral meeting in mid-March, Erhürman emphasized:

"Therefore, the ongoing negotiations and the planned multilateral meeting in mid-March are now of vital importance for this island. For our children, for this island, and for lasting peace and stability not only on this island but also in the region, we must put a stop to this course. This small island cannot bear so much risk. The children of this beautiful island, our children, cannot build a future on this land under such risk."
