Fake Diploma Case Referred to High Criminal Court

In the preliminary hearing of the “fake diploma” investigation at Cyprus Health and Social Sciences University (KSTÜ), the court ruled that the case involving former Famagusta Police Chief Barış Sel and the university’s secretary-general and shareholder Serdal Gündüz will be referred to the Nicosia High Criminal Court, which is set to convene on March 18.

During today’s hearing at the Morphou District Court, presided over by Judge Gülay Uğur, Prosecutor Damla Güçlü represented the prosecution, while defense attorneys Dilay Zeki and Mustafa Uluğ appeared on behalf of the defendants.
Judge Uğur stated that there was sufficient evidence for the defendants to be tried in the high criminal court and ordered the referral of the case to the Nicosia High Criminal Court’s session on March 18, 2025.
In the preliminary hearing, two witnesses testified, and a total of 24 pieces of evidence were presented.
Defendant Barış Sel faces 20 charges, while Serdal Gündüz has been indicted on 14 charges.
