Euro area annual inflation slows to 2.2% in March, matching market estimates

Consumer prices rise by 0.6% month-on-month in March, flash data shows

The eurozone's annual consumer inflation rate eased to 2.2% in March, matching market forecasts, according to flash estimates released on Tuesday.
Headline inflation ticked down from 2.3% in February, Eurostat data showed.
Energy prices fell 0.7% year-on-year in March after posting growth during the previous three consecutive months.
Core inflation, which excludes volatile food and energy prices, decreased to 2.4% in March, slightly below market estimates of 2.5%.
Services continued to have the highest annual inflation rate last month at 3.4%, compared with 3.7% in February. It was followed by food, alcohol, and tobacco at 2.9%, up from 2.7% in the prior month.
On a monthly basis, the eurozone consumer price index rose by 0.6%, accelerating from February's 0.4%.
