Historic Step Unites Both Sides of Nicosia: Kanlıdere Park Project Expands

The European Commission has expanded the Kanlıdere Linear Park Project to include the TRNC and the buffer zone. Expected to be completed by 2026, the project will connect both sides of Nicosia with bicycle paths and bridges.

According to reports, the European Commission has extended the "Linear Park Project" in the Greek-administered part of Nicosia to encompass the buffer zone and the TRNC. The Greek Cypriot newspaper Haravgi described the initiative as a "very important step," stating that once completed, the park will span the entire city, creating a sustainable route.
The project will allow people from both sides to travel along Kanlıdere. Users will follow designated routes in both directions, exit the park at the Ledra Palace checkpoint for necessary procedures, and then re-enter to complete the journey.
Those entering the Linear Park from the south will pass through the area near the Greek Cypriot courts and the municipal park before reaching the Ledra Palace checkpoint.
The newspaper also reported that the project has been included in the 2025 budget, and work is expected to begin on the sections within the buffer zone and the TRNC. The plan includes the construction of wooden bridges and bicycle paths, with completion anticipated in 2026.
A formal announcement regarding the project presentation is scheduled for May, to be made jointly by Nicosia Turkish Mayor Mehmet Harmancı and Nicosia Greek Mayor Haralambos Bruncos.
