Gürcafer: Greek Cypriots Aim to Destabilize the Economy by Spreading Fear

He added that their gradual and systematic actions aim to create a narrative that portrays them as victims in international law, while placing the Turkish Cypriots in the position of the guilty party.

Speaking about the actions of the Greek Cypriot side, Gürcafer described their approach as "digging a well with a needle," stating that they have advanced step by step in their efforts. He said, “By combining what they have done with what we have not, they have managed to present themselves as victims in international law and in the international community, while putting us in the position of the guilty.”

Despite all of this, Gürcafer emphasized that the Turkish Cypriot side has continued to adopt an “Allah kerim” (God willing) attitude. He remarked, “By doing nothing except belittling their efforts, we have made their work easier.”

In his statement, Gürcafer said the following:

“The Greek Cypriot side has gradually advanced, like digging a well with a needle, for years. They have covered up their irregularities by pretending to establish a legal foundation. They have made billions of economic gains by renting out hundreds of thousands of acres of Turkish Cypriot land at dirt-cheap prices. They have ‘legally’ rented out thousands of houses belonging to Turkish Cypriots at almost no cost, following the so-called Vasilik Law.

Thousands of Greek Cypriot citizens are making profits by renting out properties to others at prices ten times higher than what they paid to the state. Meanwhile, we have done nothing but belittle their actions, making their job easier. For years, we have been subjected to massacres, but we haven’t even filed a lawsuit in international law. They have seized our property, but we haven’t filed a lawsuit. They have usurped the state we were partners in, but we haven’t filed a lawsuit. Now, they have entered another phase of this planned operation. Like hunting quails, they are now targeting all of us. They aim to collapse the economy by constantly spreading fear among people investing in the North. In short, step by step, by combining their actions with what we have not done, they have succeeded in positioning themselves as victims in international law and in the community, while placing us in the guilty seat. And what do we do? We continue to adopt the 'Allah kerim' (God's will) approach.”
