Akansoy: The Participation in the Congress Was Very Good

In an appearance on Kıbrıs Postası TV's "Agenda with Ulaş Barış," Akansoy discussed the party's recent developments and plans for the future, sharing insights on both internal developments within the party and Cyprus's political future.

Akansoy highlighted that the participation rate of 1,401 votes was a very strong indicator, emphasizing that the single candidacy for the presidency had led to a more controlled congress. He also pointed out that the new generation had actively participated in the congress, while also expressing his approval of Tufan Erhürman’s speech. Akansoy added, "Our path is to complete the presidential process in the most correct way."

Akansoy noted that the party was entering an important period for the future of CTP, with many significant steps taken over the past year. He stressed that the party had worked on various important issues and had seen a lot of developments that positioned them in a leading role.

Regarding the upcoming General Secretariat election within CTP's Party Assembly, which was expected to take place on Friday night, Akansoy mentioned that he had not yet spoken to the other candidates but was considering continuing in his current role. He stated that he would consult with his colleagues in the next 1-2 days and manage the process transparently before making a final decision about his candidacy.

In a reflection on leadership changes, Akansoy quoted the saying "One does not change the horse while crossing the river" when commenting on the general secretariat position, stating that changing leadership at this stage wouldn't be wise. He emphasized that many critical works, campaign preparations, and media processes were underway and that it was not the time for an attitude of "I did it my way."

Finally, Akansoy reiterated his stance on the federal solution model, explaining that it should not be misunderstood. He emphasized that CTP is committed to defending the rights and interests of the Turkish Cypriot people, seeking a solution based on a bi-communal, bi-zonal federation with political equality. He also assured that settlements would be protected and the federal solution would secure the rights of all communities.
