Yönlüer: Sibel Tatar’s Statement Has Created Serious Discontent within UBP
Former Head of Religious Affairs Ahmet Yönlüer claimed that the statement made by Sibel Tatar, the wife of President Ersin Tatar, has caused significant unrest within the ruling National Unity Party (UBP).
Speaking on TV2020, Ahmet Yönlüer stated that the ongoing public discussions have gone off-track, with the parties involved lacking sincerity, leading the society in the wrong direction.
When reminded that President Ersin Tatar considered the headscarf as a matter of "freedom of belief," Yönlüer was asked where Sibel Tatar’s remarks should be placed. He responded, "Sibel Tatar’s statement has been met with serious opposition within the UBP. I know this."
Sibel Tatar had previously stated, "I am against underage girls wearing headscarves in classrooms where pictures of Atatürk are hung," and later reiterated that she stood by her words in another program she participated in.
