Civil Society Organisations Show Support for Teachers at Bekirpaşa Lyceum
Civil society organisations opposing the proposed amendments to the disciplinary regulation visited Bekirpaşa Lyceum—one of the schools at the centre of recent headscarf-related incidents—to express their solidarity with the teachers.
As protests against the new regulation allowing the use of headscarves in schools continue, support from various organisations has grown. Following a demonstration in front of the Parliament with the participation of the Cyprus Turkish Secondary Education Teachers’ Union (KTOEÖS), the Cyprus Turkish Teachers’ Union (KTÖS), and several other groups and political parties, the Women's Education Collective announced via social media that they had visited teachers at Bekirpaşa Lyceum who are part of the ongoing resistance.
“We visited the teachers at Bekirpaşa Lyceum to show our solidarity and express our gratitude for their struggle on the ground,” the post read. Flowers were also presented to the teachers during the visit.
