According to Haravgi newspaper, Gerapetritis made the remarks during an interview with Greece’s SKAI television, noting that the project's continuation would depend on the contractor company’s planning and would proceed at an appropriate time.

Gerapetritis reportedly emphasized the need to distinguish between the Great Sea Interconnector project and Greece’s maritime spatial planning map. While the map reflects the country's diplomatic stance, the GSI project, he said, is a significant initiative of shared interest that will move forward in due course.

He also dismissed claims that Turkish objections had sparked concerns behind the scenes, asserting that there was no indecision regarding the project.

Ellinas: “Europe Has Turned Its Back on Cyprus and Greece Over Electricity Connectivity”

In a separate report, energy expert Charles Ellinas told the Cyprus News Agency that both Cyprus and Greece need support in the energy sector and cannot handle Turkey alone.

According to the report, Ellinas pointed out that while the European Union has invested €658 million in the project, it has not taken a public stance to support it.

He also expressed concern over Gerapetritis’s comment that the project would continue “at an appropriate time,” suggesting it raised further doubts about the initiative’s future.
