TDT Council of Elders to Convene in TRNC
In a significant development following controversial agreements between some member states of the Organization of Turkic States (TDT) and the European Union, the TDT has decided to hold the 17th meeting of its Council of Elders in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).
According to TRT Haber, the meeting will be hosted by the TRNC on May 1–2.
The move comes in the wake of decisions by Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Turkmenistan to sign agreements with the European Union and establish embassies in the Greek Cypriot Administration. These steps sparked criticism and concern from Turkish Cypriot officials.
In response to the developments, President Ersin Tatar had previously urged Turkic states to act with caution in their relations with the Greek Cypriot side.
