Three Dead, 28 Injured in 80 Traffic Accidents Last Week in Northern Cyprus

According to a statement from the Police Press Office, the incidents took place between April 21 and 27. Of the 80 accidents, two were fatal, 21 resulted in injuries, and 57 involved property damage. The three fatalities occurred in the fatal accidents, while 28 individuals were injured in non-fatal crashes.

The main causes of the accidents were as follows: speeding (26 cases), failure to stop at junctions (18), careless driving (17), tailgating (12), and other factors (7). The total estimated damage from the accidents amounted to 5,126,118 Turkish lira. The distribution of accidents by district was: 31 in Nicosia, 25 in Kyrenia, 16 in Famagusta, five in Morphou, and three in Iskele.

During the same period, police conducted traffic inspections across the country, checking 14,147 drivers. Of these, 2,446 were found to have committed traffic offenses and were subject to legal action. A total of 183 vehicles were banned from traffic, and eight drivers were arrested.

• Operating a private goods vehicle without a "B" permit (8)

• Riding a motorcycle without a protective helmet (3)

• Other traffic offenses (624).
