According to the Greek Cypriot Broadcasting Corporation (RIK), the individuals in question allegedly began construction on land claimed to belong to Greek Cypriot refugees in the village of Lefkoniko (Geçitkale). The report refers to the individuals as “Turkish citizens,” believed to mean citizens of the Republic of Turkey.

The alleged development was shared by Pieris Yipsiotis, who is referred to in the report as the “mayor of Lefkoniko.” In a statement to RIK this morning, Yipsiotis claimed that his administration had filed a formal complaint upon discovering the construction activity. He asserted that, as a result of this complaint, international arrest warrants had been issued for four Turkish citizens.

Yipsiotis also referenced the recent sentencing of two Hungarian nationals by the Nicosia District Court in the south for advertising Greek Cypriot refugee properties. He described the court’s decision as a “significant victory in the effort to suppress such incidents.”

The report further noted that Yipsiotis called for strengthened cooperation with other so-called municipalities in the region to launch coordinated initiatives on similar issues.
