Hakan Fidan: TRNC Is an Inseparable Part of Our Family Council

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan emphasized the importance of solidarity with Turkish Cypriots in the face of longstanding isolation policies, stating that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) is an inseparable part of the "Family Council" of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS).

Fidan made the remarks during the Informal Meeting of OTS Foreign Ministers held in Budapest as part of the Informal Summit hosted by Hungary.
Speaking at the summit, which for the first time was hosted by an observer member, Fidan underlined that in a global environment where the international system fails to provide peace, stability, and justice, the Turkic world continues to deepen its cooperation through regional ownership. "As we take steps in this direction, we must always remember that we are part of the greater Turkic World and act with this consciousness," he stated.
Referring to the TRNC’s status as an observer member since the Samarkand Summit, Fidan added: “We believe it is our shared responsibility to act in solidarity with our Turkish Cypriot brothers and sisters, who have been subjected to unjust and inhumane isolations for decades. The TRNC, which was accepted into our Organization as an observer at the Samarkand Summit, is an inseparable part of our Family Council.”
Call for International Action Against Israel
Fidan also addressed ongoing regional crises, expressing strong support for Azerbaijan on the Karabakh issue, in alignment with other OTS members. On the situation in Gaza, he condemned the use of starvation as a weapon against civilians and the threats of forced displacement faced by Palestinians. “For the establishment of regional peace and security, it is vital that the international community takes effective and determined steps against Israel,” Fidan said.
Diplomatic Engagement on Syria and Russia-Ukraine War
He noted that Turkey's diplomatic initiatives had produced concrete outcomes in Syria, particularly in encouraging engagement between the Syrian regime and both regional and international actors, and called on OTS member states to support Syria during this period.
Commenting on the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, Fidan said: “We are at a turning point on the path to a diplomatic solution in the Russia-Ukraine war. We hope the talks held in Istanbul will lay the groundwork for a comprehensive ceasefire and, subsequently, a just and lasting peace.”
Fidan concluded his address by affirming his confidence in the unity and resolve of the Turkic World: “The strong will to ensure the enduring prosperity of the Turkic World is abundantly present around this table.”
