Mete Hatay: Tatar’s Rejection of Tripartite Meeting 'Beyond Comprehension'
Political analyst and investigative journalist Mete Hatay has sharply criticised Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar for refusing to participate in a proposed tripartite meeting, calling the decision “beyond comprehension.”
In a post on social media, Hatay said, “Ersin Tatar’s rejection of the tripartite meeting is beyond reason. Refusing to sit at the table with the direct counterpart under UN auspices is not just political inconsistency—it is the manifestation of a serious confidence crisis.”
Continuing his criticism, Hatay added, “With all due respect, you cannot govern by sulking, Mr Tatar. This is not child’s play. Either you sit at the table and take this seriously, or you step aside and let others do the work.”
Hatay's comments come in response to Tatar’s reported decision to decline a UN-brokered meeting with Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides and UN envoy María Ángela Holguín, further dimming hopes for renewed dialogue on the Cyprus issue.
