Alsancak Shooting Suspect Captured in the South and Handed Over to Police

The suspect in a recent armed attack on a residence in Alsancak has been apprehended in the south and handed over to authorities in the north. Identified as E.B. (20), the suspect had reportedly crossed into the southern part of the island through illegal means following the incident.

According to a statement from the Police Press Office, the shooting occurred on 23 May 2025 in Zeytinlik Street, where an unidentified male opened fire on a house. Following an extensive investigation, police identified the perpetrator as E.B.
Authorities discovered that the suspect had fled to the area controlled by the Greek Cypriot Administration after the attack. Upon establishing his identity, officials in the north contacted Greek Cypriot authorities to request his return.
As a result of these efforts, E.B. was handed over to Turkish Cypriot police at the Ledra Palace Checkpoint on 28 May 2025 and subsequently taken into custody.
The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
