Presiding Judge Füsun Cemaller, alongside Senior Judge Vedia Berkut Barkın and Judge Tutku Candaş, announced the ruling. Cemaller emphasized that the offence of theft by a servant—punishable by up to seven years in prison—is becoming increasingly common.

According to the case facts, Gürler, who was working as a driver for the transport company, stole 7,300 TL that he had collected on behalf of his employer. After committing the crime in 2011, Gürler left the country and was apprehended upon his return at the Kyrenia Tourism Port on 30 December 2020.

Cemaller stated that Gürler had abused the trust placed in him and stressed the importance of deterrence in such cases involving abuse of trust, citing public interest. “Whatever the reason, taking someone else’s property is never acceptable,” she said.

However, the court also considered mitigating factors, including Gürler's admission of guilt and the withdrawal of the complaint. After evaluating all circumstances, the court unanimously sentenced Gürler to 1 year and 6 months in prison.
