16 Fires in One Week, Damages Nearing 2 Million TL

The Fire Department announced that 16 fires and 18 special service incidents were recorded across the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus between 2 and 8 June, resulting in an estimated 1,848,500 TL in damages.

According to the statement, the fires were caused by various factors, including electrical short circuits, ignition of grease residues in barbecue flues and kitchen extractor fans, discarded cigarette butts, sparks from colliding electrical wires igniting dry grass, intentional burning for cleaning purposes, and sunlight refracted through glass fragments.
In addition to the fires, 18 special service calls were handled during the same period. These included fire prevention measures, rescuing cats trapped on trees or inside apartment buildings, breaking down doors to rescue individuals trapped inside homes and reuniting them with family, and transferring deceased individuals to hospital morgues for legal procedures.
A regional breakdown showed that 10 of the fires occurred in Nicosia, three in Kyrenia, and one each in Famagusta, İskele, and Geçitkale. As for the special service calls, seven were in Nicosia, six in Kyrenia, two in Famagusta, two in İskele, and one in Yeşilköy.
