EC Awards Over €2 Million in Grants to Cypriot Civil Society Organisations

The European Commission has awarded more than €2 million in funding to support 15 new projects by civil society organisations (CSOs) across Cyprus. The grants were announced by the European Commission Representation in Cyprus as part of the "Cypriot Civil Society in Action" Grant Scheme.

Following the evaluation of 69 applications, 15 projects involving 28 Cypriot CSO beneficiaries were selected for implementation between 15 and 30 months starting in June. Six of these initiatives are bi-communal, jointly implemented by Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot organisations.
According to the Commission’s statement, the selected projects will focus on key areas including:
-
Environmental protection and sustainable development
-
Reconciliation, trust-building, and civil society participation in the peace process
-
Women's empowerment and support for survivors of gender-based violence
-
Youth rights advocacy
-
Health and animal rights
-
Improving the enabling environment for civil society organisations
Since 2007, under the EU Aid Programme for the Turkish Cypriot community, the European Commission has allocated approximately €23 million in grants to support civil society organisations.
