Holguin Concludes Visit, Returns to New York Ahead of Five-Party Meeting

Fileleftheros reported that Holguin visited two key points along the Green Line — Athienou (Kiracıköy) and Lefka (Lefke) — and held three rounds of talks with the negotiators of both sides. The newspaper said her aim was to gather on-the-ground insights before next week's five-party meeting in New York.

However, the report suggested Holguin saw little indication that the sides had made any meaningful progress on the elements agreed upon in March’s Geneva meeting with the Secretary-General.

During her visit to the UN buffer zone near Lefka, Holguin also met with Greek Cypriot negotiator Menelaos Menelau and Turkish Cypriot Presidential Representative Güneş Onar. The discussions reportedly focused on potential new crossing points, solar parks, and mine clearance — but no concrete progress was made on any of the issues, Fileleftheros claimed.

Politis reported that Holguin's team was working intensively to find a compromise that would satisfy both sides regarding new crossings. It said Holguin has kept on the agenda all the crossing points proposed by Guterres in Geneva — including Mia Milia (Haspolat), Piroi-Athienou (Gaziler-Kiracıköy), Louroujina-Lymbia (Akıncılar-Limya), Arsos-Pyla (Arsos-Pile), and Kokkina (Erenköy).

In addition, the idea of opening a pedestrian route in old Nicosia, known as the “Lidinis” road, was reportedly discussed as an alternative proposal. The suggestion is said to have been put forward by Nicosia Turkish Municipality (LTB) Mayor Mehmet Harmancı, with the aim of giving Guterres a tangible outcome to present at the upcoming conference.
