Police Crack Down on Crime and Traffic Offences in Nicosia and İskele

The Turkish Cypriot Police General Directorate launched simultaneous public order and traffic inspections across Nicosia and İskele on Monday night, resulting in legal action against 464 individuals and four arrests.

Widespread Checks from Nightclubs to City Streets
The sweeping operation covered nightclubs, alcohol-serving venues, coffee houses, betting shops, and other crowded public areas. Motorists were also subject to extensive traffic checks.
Notable Public Order Incidents

In one vehicle search, police seized approximately two grams of cannabis and five prescription-only pills. The driver was arrested.

Two individuals were taken into custody after being found to be residing in the country without valid permits.

Another vehicle inspection uncovered 13 undeclared packages of fertility treatment pills and 29 ampoules. The driver was detained.

An alcohol-serving establishment was found selling drinks without a license, and legal proceedings were initiated against the operator.

A person carrying an illegal plastic baton also faces legal action.
Traffic Offences: Over 2,400 Drivers Checked
A total of 2,433 drivers were inspected, with 462 cited for various offences and 53 vehicles removed from circulation.
Major violations included:

187 drivers exceeding the speed limit,

1 driving under the influence of alcohol,

3 driving without a licence or insurance,

20 using mobile phones while driving,

21 failing to wear seatbelts,

42 driving without a road permit, 11 without inspection certificates, and 13 uninsured,

10 running red lights,

Others were reported for public transport violations, dangerous driving, and miscellaneous offences.
The Police General Directorate stressed that such inspections will continue to intensify, reaffirming its commitment to public safety as a top priority.
