Turkey Signs Eurofighter Agreement With UK

Turkey has signed a memorandum of understanding with the United Kingdom regarding its acceptance as a user of the Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jet, the Defense Ministry announced on Wednesday.

Defense Minister Yaşar Güler met with U.K. Defense Secretary John Healey to sign the agreement, marking a significant step in Turkey’s efforts to modernise its air force capabilities.
The Eurofighter Typhoon is a European-designed multirole combat aircraft developed by a consortium of Germany, the U.K., Italy, and Spain. Designed for both air-to-air and air-to-ground missions, the Typhoon is known for its agility, advanced avionics, and network-centric warfare capabilities.
Talks over Turkey’s involvement had previously stalled due to Germany’s reluctance to grant an export license. However, the newly elected government of Chancellor Friedrich Merz approved the sale. During a press conference in London last week, Merz said negotiators were “close to a decision” that would enable the license to move forward.
