Erhürman and Harmancı Pledge Unity: “We Will Open a New Page Together in October”

Republican Turkish Party (CTP) leader and presidential candidate Tufan Erhürman and Nicosia Turkish Municipality (LTB) Mayor Mehmet Harmancı met with municipal workers in the Nicosia industrial zone early Tuesday morning, sending a message of unity ahead of the critical October elections.

Speaking to the workers at 6 a.m., Erhürman emphasized the significance of the upcoming vote, describing the past five years of the presidency as a period of inaction. “We cannot endure another five years like this,” he said, calling on citizens to leave behind a country “we won’t be ashamed of” for future generations.
Erhürman criticized the current state of the presidency, claiming it has failed to fulfill its functions in recent years. “Unlike previous terms, we’ve gone through five years without any negotiations, without even a single crossing point being opened. Our people are becoming increasingly isolated from the international community, and population growth continues unchecked,” he noted. “The presidency is the only window to the outside world. We know how far we've fallen.”
Mayor Harmancı echoed Erhürman’s concerns, stating, “For the past five years, we’ve lost touch with our own presence.” He stressed the need for a leader who can both engage with the international community and defend the rights of Turkish Cypriots.
“Time and again, attempts were made to divide us,” Harmancı added. “But we see this election as critical—not for petty rivalries, but for the future of this community. We fully support Professor Tufan on this path. In October, we will open a new page together and write it together. We need leadership that unites, not divides, and we will give our full support in this effort.”
