Özersay: They Are Using Election Bans as an Excuse to Allow Temporary Teacher Hiring!

Kudret Özersay, leader of the People’s Party (HP), accused the government of deliberately including temporary teacher recruitment exams within election bans to open the way for politically motivated appointments.

Özersay said the government and opposition agreed not to shorten the election ban period from 60 to 45 days, which means no appointments can be made during that time. He warned this would delay hiring new teachers for middle and high schools until November.
However, he added that the government could still hire temporary teachers during the election period and use this as a political tool.
Özersay suggested changing the Election and Referendum Law so that exams already announced by official decrees, especially in essential sectors like education and health, could proceed without delay.
He criticized that while election bans cover land distributions, these are often done just before the ban starts or through “ownership certificates,” which are used as election favors.
In short, Özersay said that while land distributions happen before election bans, temporary teacher hiring exams are purposely included in the bans so temporary hiring can continue as a form of election investment.
