Güröz: “We Will Continue the Strike Despite the Difficulties”

The Cooperative Employees’ Union (KOOP-SEN) has carried its strike at Koop-Süt, Zirai Levazım, and Binboğa Feed Cooperatives into its seventh day, citing the non-payment of July salaries. Union President Mehmetali Güröz stressed that despite all difficulties, they would continue their struggle and not abandon their cause.

The strike, which began last Tuesday, affects the three subsidiaries of the Cyprus Turkish Cooperative Central Bank Ltd. Following protests outside the Prime Ministry and the Registrar of Cooperative Companies, workers yesterday staged a demonstration in front of the Deputy Prime Ministry, Ministry of Tourism, Culture, Youth, and Environment, and continued their action there again today.
Speaking to TAK, Güröz said there had been no progress since yesterday and that the union would persist with its strike and protest actions. He expressed little hope of any constructive response from the authorities.
“They are trying to put us under pressure. This will not wear us down, but it will exhaust our enterprises. If things continue this way, we will unfortunately return one day to find our workplaces gone,” he warned.
Noting that no production had taken place for seven days, Güröz said the cooperatives were unable to meet demands for milk, feed, and gas, forcing customers to turn to the private sector. “Despite all difficulties, we will continue the strike. We will not bid farewell to our colleagues. This is a struggle for our rights, and we will carry on,” he declared.
KOOP-SEN announced that tomorrow it will stage another protest at the Cooperative Central Bank Headquarters.
