Election Timeline and Restrictions Begin on Sunday

The timetable and restrictions for the presidential election scheduled for 19 October in the TRNC have been set. According to the announcement by the Supreme Election Board (YSK), the election calendar and bans will officially come into force on Sunday.

Key Dates in the Election Calendar

  • 9 September – Political parties must determine their candidates.

  • 12 September – Candidate applications to be submitted; provisional list of candidates to be announced the same day.

  • 14 September – Voter lists to be posted for seven days.

  • 15 September – Independent candidates must submit their desired symbols or emblems for the ballot.

  • 21 September – Candidates to be finalised and officially announced; drawing of lots for the order of parties and independents on the ballot.

  • 22 September – Ballot papers to be prepared under YSK supervision; lots to determine order of BRT propaganda broadcasts and wall posters.

  • 23 September – Official start of the election campaign period.

  • 28 September – Deadline for parties and independents to apply for BRT broadcast slots.

  • 29 September – Finalisation of voter lists, with corrections communicated to parties.

  • 4 October – Last day to publish opinion polls and surveys related to the election.

  • 16 October – Final date for distribution of voter cards.

  • 18 October – End of election propaganda period.

The presidential election will be held on 19 October.
