KTGB Issues Election Warning to Media: Impartial Reporting Essential

The Management Board of the Cyprus Turkish Journalists Association (KTGB) has issued a warning to media professionals and outlets ahead of the upcoming presidential elections.

In its statement, the association emphasized that all media organizations, whether domestic or abroad, must adhere to impartial and balanced reporting during the election period.
KTGB highlighted that impartial journalism is crucial for enabling the public to make informed decisions. Maintaining equal distance from all candidates and critically evaluating their statements are fundamental principles of professional and unbiased reporting.
The statement specifically warned that foreign media outlets expressing support for any candidate would constitute direct interference in the election.
The association also reminded that the Turkish News Agency (TAK) and Bayrak Radio Television Corporation (BRT) must remain neutral, and that their staff and management are expected to comply with broadcasting rules and election restrictions.
Finally, KTGB stressed that any attempts to pressure or influence TAK and BRT personnel will be met with the association’s strongest opposition.
