Speaking on Kanal T’s program hosted by Damla Dabis, Amcaoğlu highlighted the critical role of Kıb-Tek in the country’s energy planning.

“Currently, Kıb-Tek is not under the Ministry of Economy and Energy. It must be. Kıb-Tek is the country’s largest institution; with a budget of 40 billion TL, it should play a central role in national energy planning,” he stated.

Amcaoğlu also pointed to Northern Cyprus’ natural advantages, saying, “With the opportunity to see the sun 333 days a year, this country has the potential to meet all its energy needs from renewable sources. In this regard, we are among the top five globally.”

He stressed the necessity of an interconnective energy link with Turkey, noting that he has already discussed the issue with Turkey’s Energy Minister.

Regarding energy projects in the Greek Cypriot south, Amcaoğlu argued that these are not cost-effective. “The south uses Europe’s most expensive energy and receives fines from the EU every year for failing to meet emission targets. This is not just a technical issue, it is also political,” he said.

Highlighting the importance of energy in bi-communal negotiations, he added, “Both communities want affordable energy, whether water or electricity. Therefore, energy must be a key agenda item in official 5+1 format talks.”

Amcaoğlu concluded by emphasizing that the Energy Ministry remains accessible to citizens and that short-, medium-, and long-term energy plans need to be implemented.
