Hitmen Case: Suspects Remanded for Five More Days

Four men accused in connection with a contract killing plot in Nicosia have been ordered to remain in custody for another five days.

Alper Yıldırım and Muhammed Ali Kalan, alleged hitmen, along with Mutlu Töre and Kadir Kıcık, accused of supplying them with a firearm, were brought before the court after being arrested in a police operation led by the Crime Prevention Unit and the Nicosia Criminal Investigation Department.
Police officer Doğucan Kırgeç told the court that the suspects face charges of “illegal possession of firearms and explosives.” He said Yıldırım and Kalan were caught on 29 August with an unregistered 7.65mm pistol and a magazine containing five rounds.
According to police, the pair admitted they collected the weapon from a cemetery in Sütlüce village after being sent its location and a video. Investigations revealed that Töre and Kıcık had placed the gun there on 26 August. Both men were later arrested.
Police also told the court that CCTV footage showed Yıldırım and Kalan scouting the workplace of a local businessman on 27 August and again the following day. In addition, an image of a pistol matching the seized weapon was recovered from the deleted files on Töre’s phone.
Kırgeç said seven witness statements had been taken so far, and further evidence, including detailed forensic examination of the suspects’ phones, was still pending. He requested additional time to pursue leads and locate others possibly involved.
Judge Şevket Gazi granted the request and ordered all four suspects to remain in custody for another five days.
