Erdoğan: “Even If the TRNC Administration Changes, Turkey’s Stance Will Not Change”

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, returning from Qatar, emphasized that Turkey’s support for the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) is unwavering: “Even if the administration changes, Turkey’s stance will not change.”

He stressed that the TRNC is a sovereign state whose elections must be conducted under independent judicial oversight and that Turkey will not allow anyone to undermine its rights.
Speaking on the upcoming TRNC elections and the Cyprus issue, Erdoğan said Turkey considers the rights and interests of the TRNC as its own. He also highlighted that Turkey’s legitimate guarantor rights under international law and UN resolutions guarantee the TRNC’s existence and protect its maritime zones in the Eastern Mediterranean, regardless of which political party comes to power.
Warning against external interference, Erdoğan added: “Cyprus has historically been a playground for regional and global powers. Recent painful events remain fresh in our memory. No one should create new crises that could harm the Turkish Cypriots. We will not allow similar suffering to occur again.”
He concluded by wishing that the TRNC elections would be successful and beneficial for the Turkish Cypriot people, reaffirming Turkey’s steadfast support ahead of the polls.
