Erhürman: Turkish Cypriots Hold Rights Across the Entire Island

Presidential candidate Tufan Erhürman met with residents in Arapkoy, emphasizing that the time has come to strongly reaffirm the Turkish Cypriot community’s commitment to a solution on the international stage. He announced that a “Public Diplomacy Unit” will be established within the Presidency to increase visibility abroad.

Erhürman, accompanied by Catalköy-Esentepe Mayor Ceyhun Kırok, CTP Girne District Chairman and MP Ongun Talat, and other MPs, highlighted that Turkish Cypriots are an inherent and rightful part of the island—whether in the south or north, on land, sea, or air.
Public Diplomacy Unit to Strengthen International Visibility
Erhürman criticized the past five years as largely inactive, pledging that after 19 October, Turkish Cypriots’ rights will be vigorously defended at the negotiating table. The new unit will go beyond traditional diplomacy, aiming to foster mutual understanding, build trust, and create a positive international perception of the Turkish Cypriot community. The unit will highlight the presence and contributions of Turkish Cypriots in Europe, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Turkic Council, and other international platforms, across fields such as science, culture, arts, sports, and gastronomy.
Reaffirming Solution Commitment and Rights
Stressing the importance of demonstrating the Turkish Cypriots’ commitment to a solution, Erhürman said: “It is time to remind the world, strongly and clearly, that Turkish Cypriots are a rightful part of this island—north, south, on land, sea, or air. No one can deny this reality.”
He also addressed energy and hydrocarbon issues, emphasizing that Turkish Cypriot rights cannot be ignored and that projects excluding them or Turkey are unacceptable. Erhürman highlighted the need for inclusive cooperation on climate change, environmental protection, cultural heritage, disaster response, and educational and cultural exchanges, stating that obstacles in crossings or access points should be resolved and communicated to the international community.
Finally, Erhürman underlined a broad, active diplomacy involving scientists, businesspeople, civil society, and institutional mechanisms—not just presidential initiatives—to ensure Turkish Cypriots’ voice is seen and heard globally.
