Ersin Tatar Pledges “Proactive Diplomacy” to Build a Stronger TRNC

Speaking to the Turkish News Agency (TAK), Tatar said the strategy aims to enhance the living standards, welfare, and security of the Turkish Cypriot community through tangible projects and services.

Tatar emphasized that his administration focuses on results rather than abstract promises, highlighting achievements from his first term, including the establishment of the new Presidential Complex, the National Library, sports and social facilities, and the largest park on the island. He also cited the 2025 TEKNOFEST event in Nicosia, which attracted over 225,000 participants, as a historic milestone for the TRNC.

The president underscored his commitment to the “Two-State Solution,” saying that with popular support, he overcame what he calls “learned helplessness” and firmly advanced the vision on international platforms. Tatar stressed that his administration has consistently engaged with both Turkey and the broader Turkish States Organization (TDT), as well as international institutions, to formalize the TRNC’s status and ensure recognition of its sovereignty and flag.

“Being accepted as an observer member of the Turkish States Organization under our official name and flag was a historic moment,” Tatar said. “This achievement, along with my visit to Australia where I met Turkish Cypriot communities, is a source of immense pride.”

Tatar also outlined domestic priorities for a second term, including building fully equipped hospitals in every district, expanding infrastructure and fiber-optic networks, ensuring stable and affordable energy, improving irrigation and agriculture, and enhancing education and tourism.

He called on voters to support a stronger, internationally engaged, and self-reliant TRNC, saying: “The Turkish Cypriots are masters of their land and state. They will not bow to foreign pressures or attempts to merge us with the Greek Cypriot state. My promise to all the people of this country is a brighter, stronger TRNC that delivers welfare, freedom, and independence for everyone.”

Tatar concluded by emphasizing that his “Proactive Diplomacy” approach will ensure concrete results, development, and international visibility for the TRNC while maintaining strong ties with Turkey and the wider Turkish world.
