Erhürman: The Turkish Cypriot People Have Won, Brotherhood Has Won!

Calling the election outcome “not an individual victory, but a collective success of the Turkish Cypriot people,” Erhürman said a new era had begun in which no group would be excluded and everyone would be embraced.

Speaking at the same location where he had announced his candidacy, Erhürman recalled promising unity and inclusion from day one, saying, “After I said that, many beautiful things happened.”

He expressed gratitude to the Communal Democracy Party (TDP), independent MPs Jale Refik Rogers and Ayşegül Baybars, former MP Gülşah Sanver Manavoğlu, and Rebirth Party (TAM) founder Serdar Denktaş for their contributions. Erhürman also thanked voters from the National Unity Party (UBP), Democratic Party (DP), Yeniden Doğuş Partisi (YDP), and all others who supported him, noting that winning in every district carried special meaning for him.

“Brotherhood Has Won — I Promise to Embrace Everyone”

Reminding that his campaign had emphasized unity, Erhürman said:
“We said we would never be divided, never be fragmented. Where someone was born, or where their parents were born — it does not matter. We are all equal. We said brotherhood would win — and brotherhood has indeed won.”

Erhürman added that despite personal attacks during the campaign, he harboured no resentment:
“Those who know me know there is no hatred, no hostility in me. My heart is wide. From today on, regardless of what was said during the campaign, I promise to embrace everyone.”

He reiterated that what unites the Turkish Cypriot people is “their love for this land and their love for their children,” adding, “This election was won by our children, by our brotherhood.”

“We Will Work in Consultation With the Republic of Turkey”

Addressing questions raised during the campaign about his relationship with Turkey, Erhürman said:
“Some asked whether I would be able to consult with Turkey. We have always said it, though some chose not to hear: as our four former presidents did, we will naturally conduct our foreign policy and our work on the Cyprus issue in consultation with the Republic of Turkey.”

He also thanked President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz, and Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan for sending congratulatory messages.

“We Have Great Work Ahead — Let’s Walk This Path Together”

“There is so much beautiful work we will do together,” Erhürman told the crowd. “When we stand together, there is nothing we cannot achieve.”

He urged continued unity and determination:
“Be ready for a great struggle. We said this country cannot continue as it is — that we would fight for change for our children. You said, ‘Let’s walk this path together, let’s win together.’ Now I ask you for one more promise: for the next five years, let’s keep walking and struggling together.”

After pausing to take photos with supporters, Erhürman said his priority would be to unite all citizens — regardless of how they voted — and to work tirelessly toward a clear goal:
“We have citizens who were displaced, who became prisoners of war, who gave their lives. They used to ask, ‘Did we go through all this so our children and grandchildren would face the same?’ We will work 24 hours a day until that question no longer needs to be asked.”

He concluded by pledging to make the country one where young people can be happy and choose to stay:
“Parents have been telling their children not to return home, to stay where they are happy. We will work so that our children can be happy here, in their own country.”
