Fikri Toros: Lasting Peace in Cyprus Is Possible Through a Solution Based on Political Equality

In his statement on social media, Toros described Cyprus as one of the most tangible examples where Europe’s vision of peace, synergy, and solidarity is being tested.

He noted that through the presidential election, the Turkish Cypriot people reaffirmed their commitment to a just settlement and to European values, adding, “Our people have fulfilled their responsibility for lasting peace in their common homeland and the region.”

Toros underlined that energy security in the Eastern Mediterranean can only be achieved by delimiting maritime zones based on the principles of proportionality and equity. He added that this would be possible through a settlement of the Cyprus issue founded on political equality and international law.

Emphasising that Turkish Cypriots seek not marginalisation or isolation but a settlement based on two politically equal constituent states and integration with the international community, Toros said, “We will continue to be the representatives and advocates of this will in every platform.”
