Erhürman: EMU Board Of Trustees Appointments Must Be Made Promptly And In Line With The Law

Stating that “EMU is one of our most important institutions,” Erhürman underlined that the EMU Establishment Law clearly regulates the procedures for the appointment and removal of members of the Board of Trustees.

Conveying the expectations of the Presidency, Erhürman said: “As the Presidency, we wish for the envisaged dismissal and appointment procedures to be carried out as soon as possible, in compliance with the legal provisions outlined below (as previously stated, preferably through consultation), and for the uncertainty to be brought to an end.”

In his post, Erhürman also referred to Article 5 of the EMU Establishment Law, noting that the chairperson and members of the Board of Trustees are appointed by the President for a six-year term upon the proposal of the Council of Ministers. He recalled that in the event of a vacancy on the board, appointments to vacant positions must be made within no later than one month, and that duties may be terminated with written justification.

Erhürman further pointed to Article 6 of the law, emphasising that board members must be selected from among individuals with experience in fields such as education and training, institutional management and supervision, human resources, and investment planning. He also noted that the same article stipulates that board members may not hold paid or unpaid positions at Eastern Mediterranean University or other institutions affiliated with the foundation.
