Tatar: Until a New Office Is Allocated, I Will Donate the £600 Monthly Rent to Charities

In a statement addressing the issue, Tatar said that following the presidential election on 19 October, he has been using the former Kanal T building, owned by Escan Limited in which he is a shareholder, as an office, noting that an office similar to those allocated to former presidents has not yet been identified.

Tatar stated that, in order to ensure the continuation of necessary official functions, the Council of Ministers produced a procedurally appropriate decision following consultations with the Ministry of Finance and the Prime Ministry.

Emphasising that a contract is required in order to complete the necessary procedures with the Ministry of Finance, Tatar said the monthly rent of £600 is purely a legal and procedural requirement.

Rejecting what he described as deliberate distortions of the issue and unfair criticism directed at him personally, Tatar said in his written statement:

“The monthly rent of £600 has been arranged as a requirement of this process. The actual rental value of the building is undoubtedly much higher. This issue has been exaggerated and taken in very different directions, resulting in serious and unjust criticism against me. I would like to respectfully inform the public that, until an appropriate building is allocated to me, I will donate an amount equivalent to the rent collected to charitable organisations.”
